NDS Draft Consultation

Encouraged by the success of the Far Headingley Neighbourhood Design Statement, adopted in 2005, community associations in Headingley and Hyde Park agreed on the value of a NDS to help preserve and promote our "existing good environment" (UDP, Strategic Aim SA1).  Leeds HMO Lobby put a proposal to the Inner NW Area Committee - which in December 2006 commissioned Headingley Development Trust to prepare a NDS.

The Trust appointed a Project Director and a Planning Consultant and set up a Steering Group to undertake the project.  Progress is outlined on our website, at http://www.headingleydevelopmenttrust.org.uk/ (go to 'Headingley Design Statement').  The Project was launched in 2007, surveys were carried out in 2008, drafting took place in 2009, and this year, the final form of the NDS has been negotiated with the Council (as the NDS will be a Supplementary Planning Document, officially adopted by the Council).

The penultimate step is a Formal Consultation: details are attached.  The Draft NDS can be accessed in a variety of ways, online or in print; the Consultation runs from 1 June to 13 July 2010; and Responses should be sent to Area Management, at the address given.  All members of HDT are warmly invited to comment on the Draft!

If all goes well, we hope to launch the NDS in the autumn.

Best wishes, Richard Tyler, NDS Project Director

consultation closes at 5pm on 13 July 2010
