Steiner School
A Steiner parent and child group, originally set up in Headingley in 1998, has grown into a thriving kindergarten now based on the Chapel Allerton/ Meanwood border, but open to families from across Leeds.
Beechtree Steiner Initiative provides an alternative to mainstream education for three to six year olds, and runs weekly parent and child groups. Due to NEG funding, all three and four year old are entitled to three free sessions a week. Sessions run from 9.30am – 1.30pm every day, with early drop off available and afternoon care provided subject to demand.
Beechtree has a gentle rhythm and the children have time to play freely inside and out with simple toys made of natural materials, and participate in activities, songs and stories with a seasonal and environmental emphasis.
In line with Steiner principles, children can stay at Beechtree until they are five or six delaying the start of formal education if parents so wish.
A ten year anniversary benefit gig, featuring local musicians, is planned later in the year. For more information about Beechtree please call 0113 226 5689, visit www.leeds-steiner.org.uk or email enquiries@leeds-steiner.org.uk/.
