Headingley in Bloom
Headingley in Bloom is an initiative set up under the umbrella of the HDT. It has the backing of Leeds City Council and has secured a small community grant. In 2007 the group completed its first project which was to create a mixed bed of shrubs, perennials and bulbs opposite Somerfield.
We are placing half-barrels around the war memorial at St Michaels and brightening the grass verge fronting Salvos restaurant with 1000 daffodil and crocus bulbs donated by Groundwork Leeds.
For 2008 we are planting a colourful display of spring and summer bedding designed by local children.
Future initiatives will be to create a sensory garden at St Michaels, with the involvement of Shire View Centre for the visually impaired. Each project will be designed to declare the wonderful mix of people that are part of Headingley, and redefine it as an inclusive community.
